Help us shape your ActiveLife

The team behind Orkney’s ActiveLife scheme are reminding the public to help keep the scheme in good shape by passing on issues and suggestions to staff at their fitness centre.

Garry Burton, OIC’s Sport and Leisure Service Manager, said: “We usually see a bit of a spike in demand this time of year - both at the Picky and at Council facilities - as people move back to exercise classes after the summer.

“We’d remind people that you can book exercise classes up to two weeks ahead.

“But also do let us know if you can’t get booked in, if you feel there’s demand for more of a particular class, or you have other suggestions.

“Remember, it’s your scheme and we’re keen to hear from the community and keep abreast of where we can develop it further.”

ActiveLife - a Pickaquoy Centre Trust scheme giving members access to the Picky and 11 Council-owned fitness facilities - was launched in January this year.

The scheme also now includes ActiveIslands - a lower-cost option for folk on Orkey’s island communities to access gym facilities and fitness classes on their specific island.

This autumn, the health and wellbeing courses offered through the Council’s Community Learning and Development Evening Courses programme were also added to the scheme.
