Help on offer when private water supplies run dry

Date: 7 August 2018

The Council is advising households with private water supplies that help is available if these run dry.

In response to this summer’s lengthy spell of dry weather, the Scottish Government is making funding available to local authorities and Scottish Water to ensure that emergency supplies of drinking water can be provided when needed to homes that rely on a private supply.

David Brown, the Council’s Environmental Health Manager, said: “We have had requests for assistance from two households in Rousay with private water supplies. The Council is arranging for bottled water to be delivered to the island today.

“If other households in Orkney find their private supply is running dry, they are welcome to contact us for advice and assistance, so we can help make sure they have water for drinking and cooking.”
