Granny's Box - United with Ukraine
Date: 7 March 2022
Many of Orkney’s home bakers are putting their talents to good use – raising funds to support the people of Ukraine.
Julie Colquhoun is behind “Granny’s Box, based in Burray and is known for her tasty homebakes.
She decided to include a tray of cupcakes within the box with funds raised going to the Ukraine appeal – so far, she has raised a mouthwatering £60.
Julie said: “It doesn’t feel like it’s enough when I watch the TV seeing the images of the children especially is just awful, but I love to bake so I’m selling boxes of cupcakes to raise funds for the Ukraine appeal. The local community have been very generous.”
Orkney’s Rhoda Featherstone also offered to bake carrot and walnut, banana and chocolate chip and boiled fruit loaves and was inundated with orders via her social media page. She is catching up with orders at the moment and will reopen the book if possible, with suggested donations of £3 for a large cake and £1.50 for a smaller one. Rhoda has raised £40 to date – that’s a lot of cakes!
Well done to you both.
