Golden performance by School Concert Band

Orkney Schools Concert Band achieved a gold certificate in what was their debut Scottish Concert Band Festival (SCBF) adjudication, held last Sunday (18 November) at the King Street Halls and will progress to the National finals held in Perth in March 2019.

The Band consists of pupils from Stromness Academy, Westray Junior High, Sanday Community School, Papdale Primary and KGS, and was established in August this year.

It’s run by OIC's Instrumental Music Service with financial support from Creative Scotland's Youth Music Initiative, which funds the transport costs of isles pupils.

SCBF adjudicator Hughina Naylor praised the band's warm sound and confident performance and says she looks forward to seeing the band in Perth.
