Tribute has been paid to OIC’s Executive Director of Development and Infrastructure Gavin Barr, who will be leaving the Council during the summer to take on a new role.
Chair of Development and Infrastructure, Graham Sinclair, praised Gavin’s commitment and contribution to the Council over many years.
His remarks were made at the final meeting of the Development and Infrastructure Committee Gavin will attend as Executive Director, before he starts his new role as managing director of Stromness-based Aquatera Ltd.
Councillor Sinclair said: “You have been absolutely key to the delivery of essential services for a goodly number of years.
“You have also played a significant role in developing and delivering strategic projects and in negotiations with outside bodies, including the Scottish and UK Governments.
“Possibly the best way to sum up your contribution and commitment to the Council and to this Committee is to say that you have been and are a fine example of someone dedicated to public service – something that’s becoming increasingly rare these days.
“That is the highest compliment I can pay to an officer of the Council and, on behalf of the Committee, I would like to thank you for the guidance you’ve given us and add my personal thanks for the support you have given to me in my role.
“You will be a great loss to the Council and I’m sure all Members will join me in wishing you every success in the next phase of your career.”
Councillor Sinclair’s tribute was followed by a round of applause from Councillors attending the virtual meeting.
Gavin said: “It has been an absolute privilege to have served the Committee and the Council. I’m very proud of my team – team D and I – and of the Council’s wider Senior Management Team.”
