Games residency for island artists
Date: 25 January 2019
Time: 03:07
An exciting opportunity is on offer to local artists – an arts residency at this year’s Island Games in Gibraltar.
Artists interested in developing their work in the visual arts, theatre, performing arts, literature, or any other medium can apply to take part.
The residency is being offered by Gibraltar Cultural Services (GCS).
GCS is inviting one artist from each participating island in the games to spend two weeks in Gibraltar.
Participants will be encouraged to work collaboratively and make pieces that would then be showcased to audiences at an exhibition towards the end of the residency.
Storyteller, writer and cathedral custodian Fran Flett Hollinrake, who took part in a residency in Jersey in 2014, said: “It was an amazing experience.
“First of all, I got the chance to work with very creative people from all over the world – dancers, musicians, painters, poets, theatre makers. They were so inspiring and some strong links and friendships were forged.
“It was also a fantastic opportunity to spend a concentrated amount of time on creative pursuits, without having to worry about daily life! I would urge anyone to do it if they can.”
Artists selected to take part in this year’s residency will be in Gibraltar from the Sunday 23 June to Saturday 6 July 2019. These dates may be flexible to fit around travel arrangements.
Participants will be required to pay for their travel to and from Gibraltar – accommodation, food, transport and limited materials will be paid for as part of the residency.
Artists should apply by email. They should include a CV and statement detailing recent projects, a portfolio with samples of works and a brief description of their interest in art.
Closing date for applications is Friday 1st February 2019.
