Free training for landlords
Date: 13 April 2021
Time: 01:07
A free course for landlords will run in Orkney later this month aimed at ensuring they know how to register and how to comply with their obligations to tenants.
The one-hour course is provided by Landlord Accreditation Scotland (LAS) and is paid for by Orkney Islands Council. Register here.
All landlords providing long term tenancies in Scotland are required to register with the local council which covers the area where their let property is located, and declare that they are complying with certain duties, known as prescribed information. These duties include understanding the Repairing Standard, having the right safety certificates in place and being able to provide them to the local council if requested to do so.
The LAS webinar will provide a brief guide to landlords on their duties, talk through each area of the prescribed information and provide guidance on answering the questions asked when registering as a landlord with Orkney Islands Council.
Questions can be asked throughout the webinar and will be answered live by the course host and tutor at the end of the session.
Head of Community Learning, Leisure and Housing at Orkney Islands Council, Frances Troup, says helping landlords achieve good quality private rentals is part and parcel of preventing housing issues in the county: “Becoming a private landlord does bring with it obligations. Completing this training and receiving LAS accreditation can help landlords reassure prospective tenants – and themselves - of their property management skills and help avoid running into common problems so we’d urge new and existing landlords to take up this offer.”
Landlord Accreditation Scotland (LAS) is the national accreditation scheme for Scottish landlords and letting agents, promoting best practice in the private rented sector by offering training and education across the country.
