Free car seat safety clinic coming to Orkney
Date: 1 July 2024
Time: 04:00
A free car seat safety clinic is coming to Orkney in July, aimed at helping protect your precious peedie cargo while out and about in a vehicle.
The Orkney Road Safety Forum is supporting the “Good Egg Car Safety” drop-by clinic where an expert can check your child’s car seat set up for free.
Yvonne Scott, Road Safety Officer at the Council, said: “Having a correctly fitted car seat – both to your child and to your vehicle – can reduce the risk of serious injury to your child in the event of an accident.
“A 2022 Good Egg clinic in Orkney found 74% of car seats checked were incorrectly fitted. Whilst some were minor and easily sorted – such as an incorrect harness or head-rest height, too muck slack in belts or harnesses, over a third had major or incompatible errors.
“Any emergency service representative will tell you that making sure your car seat is fitted properly to your child and your vehicle can make all the difference when it comes to decreasing the risk of serious injury in the event of an accident.
“The safety checks are carried out by a specially trained Good Egg Safety expert, not police officers - so people should not feel they are at risk of getting into trouble and seats are not confiscated.
"Rather it's an opportunity to get some reassurance that your car seat is compatible with your vehicle, and to get tips and advice on any adjustments that would improve the car seat’s performance.
“We'd urge anyone who drives children about - whether that's childminders, grandparents and parents or wider friends – to drop into the clinic. It is around ten minutes of your time well spent.”
Pop the date in your diary - Thursday 11 July from 10am-3pm in the Tesco car park in Kirkwall.
