Flagstone repair work - Update 4 March 2022
Date: 4 March 2022
Kirkwall
From Monday, 7 March, there will be flagstone repairs on Bridge Street and Victoria Street, in Kirkwall, being carried out by Andrew Sinclair Ltd, on behalf of Orkney Islands Council.
This will require sections of the street being closed, at certain times, when the appropriate signs are setup.
These include:
- Bridge Street/ Albert Street, from Monday 7 March, for 3 days.
- Victoria Street, down to Victoria Road, from Wednesday 9 March, for 3 days.
The contractor will endeavour to minimise the length of these closures wherever they can, but the works will be weather dependant.
Where required, repaired areas will be covered temporarily to allow them to fully cure, and it will be necessary for the areas to remain closed while this takes place.
Pedestrian and emergency vehicle access will be maintained throughout.
The contractor’s working hours will generally be 8am to 4.30pm, Monday to Friday.
The Council would like to apologise for the inconvenience these works may cause and thank the public for their ongoing patience.
Stromness
There have been some delays this week, so the flagstone repair works are continuing along Alfred Street, towards Mayburn Court, and should move south of the Lighthouse Pier access, from Monday, meaning access to the Lighthouse Pier, will be from Hellihole Road end.
The road will continue to be closed from Hellihole Road / Dundas Street junction to Ness Road, with no vehicular access. This section of the works are expected to take 3-4 weeks to complete, which will be weather dependant.
Where required, repaired areas will be covered temporarily to allow them to fully cure, and it will be necessary for the areas to remain closed while this takes place.
Pedestrian access will be maintained throughout.
The contractor’s working hours will generally be 8am to 4.30pm, Monday to Friday, with occasional Saturday working.
The Council would like to apologise for the inconvenience these works may cause and thank the public for their ongoing patience.
