Date: 27 September 2022
The smiles and squeals of excitement from pupils at Westray Junior High School summed up their delight at the latest donation from Cooke Aquaculture which enabled the purchase of a variety of outdoor play equipment.
Thanks to funding, the school was able to purchase outside Connect 4, Jenga, a four hoop basketball stand, wobble cushions, skipping ropes, netball nets, volleyballs and much more to ensure there’s something to suit all ages.
Secondary teacher, Rozi Rendall, said: “I wish I had been able to record the excitement levels (and noise) in my classroom. They are absolutely delighted, and super excited about using all the new toys and sports equipment. It was lovely to witness.”
She explained that some of the new items meant a number of interested pupils would be able to up their sports practise.
“Our itinerant P.E. teacher is keen to further open up the world of sport to all our pupils and encourage all young people to get active. Sport benefits both physical and mental health. The purchases specific to the younger pupils means lots more imaginative play, socialisation skills and emotional regulation.”
