Orkney Islands Council has welcomed news from the Scottish Government today, 2 March, that more pupils will be heading back to school from 15 March.
The Council's Executive Director of Education, Leisure and Housing, James Wylie, said: "We welcome the First Minister’s announcement today that all children in primaries 4-7 will return to full-time education from the 15th March.
"The secondary offer will be worked on by schools in the forthcoming days following formal detail from the Scottish Government.
"Once we have received written confirmation from the Scottish Government we will be in a position to give further details to parents and carers."
The First Minister has confirmed that all primary school children are set to return to school full-time from 15 March, with all secondary pupils returning on a part-time basis from that date.
The plans are conditional on continued progress on suppressing coronavirus (COVID-19).
All pupils are expected to return to full-time schooling after Easter, subject to continued suppression of the virus.
