Finstown road works update
Date: 28 April 2022
Resurfacing works on the A965 (main Kirkwall to Stromness Road) junction with Old Finstown Road are now in the final stages and expected to be completed by polling day.
Contractors are expected to be laying surfacing materials on Tuesday next week (3 May), with line marking being the last bit of works before re-opening fully on Wednesday 4 May, ready for polling day on Thursday 5 May.
Meantime the A965 is open under traffic lights. Old Finstown Road remains fully closed between Acre Lea Road and the A965 with the signed diversion via Old Finstown Road and Zions Loan.
It’s expected all roads above will fully reopen on Wednesday evening.
John Wrigley said: “Our focus over the coming week will be working closely with our contractors to ensure access to the Firth Community Centre for voters will be as normal on polling day.
“Meantime we thank motorists who regularly travel through Finstown for their patience over what has been several weeks of disruption for them, while we have been carrying out these important works on one of the county’s most heavily used roads has been carried out.”
Drivers are reminded to allow extra travel time for these road works in Finstown.
