Festive waste and recycling collection reminder for householders – mainland Orkney

Orkney Islands Council is reminding householders there are changes to waste and recycling collections over the festive period.

There will be no household recycling collections during the festive period between 25 December and 5 January inclusive.

Household waste collections will continue over the festive period, as follows – note there are changed dates for most Areas due to the public holidays. You can check which is your Area at www.orkney.gov.uk/mybins

Area 1: Kirkwall (Central and North West). Normally Mondays. Festive period waste collections will be Monday 18 December 2023 and Wednesday 3 January 2024

Area 2: Kirkwall (West). Normally Tuesdays. Festive period waste collections will be Tuesday 19 December 2023 and Thursday 4 January 2024

Area 3: Kirkwall (Central). Normally Wednesdays. Festive period waste collections will be Wednesday 20 December 2023 and Wednesday 3 January 2024

Area 4: Kirkwall (South East). Normally Thursdays. Festive period waste collections will be Thursday 21 December 2023 and Thursday 4 January 2024

Area 5: Kirkwall (North East). Normally Fridays. Festive period waste collections will be Friday 22 December 2023 and Friday 5 January 2024

Area 6: East Holm, Deerness, Tankerness and Toab. Normally Mondays. Festive period waste collections will be Monday 18 December 2023 and Wednesday 3 January 2024

Area 7: Kirkwall (South), Holm, Burray (North). Normally Tuesdays. Festive period waste collections will be Tuesday 19 December 2023 and Thursday 4 January 2024

Area 8: South Ronaldsay and Burray (South). Normally Wednesdays. Festive period waste collections will be Wednesday 20 December 2023 and Wednesday 3 January 2024

Area 9: Stromness (Central). Normally Mondays. Festive period waste collection will be on Saturday 30 December 2023

Area 10: Stromness (Outer Areas) and Stenness (West). Normally Tuesdays. Festive period waste collection will be on Saturday 30 December 2023

Area 11: Stromness (Outer), Sandwick and Birsay. Normally Wednesdays. Festive period waste collection will be on Wednesday 27 December 2023

Area 12: Dounby, Birsay and Evie. Normally Thursdays. Festive period waste collection will be on Thursday 28 December 2023

Area 13 : Firth, Rendall, Evie and Harray. Normally Fridays. Festive period waste collection will be on Friday 29 December 2023

Area 14: Finstown, Stenness (East) and Harray . Normally Thursdays. Festive period waste collection will be on Thursday 28 December 2023

Area 15: Orphir and Stenness (West). Normally Fridays. Festive period waste collection will be on Friday 29 December 2023

All collections return to normal from Monday 8 January 2024.
