Are you entitled to free ferry travel through the Older and Disabled or 16-18 year old national concessionary schemes?

Do you receive paper ferry vouchers providing you with 2 free return trips from Orkney to the mainland?

If so, Transport Scotland are moving paper vouchers to be provided in a smart format the same as your concessionary bus pass.

This means the vouchers would be electronically stored on your National Entitlement Card (which you might know as your ‘bus pass’, ‘saltirecard’ or Young Scot card).

Two researchers from Transport Scotland will be in Orkney next week (20 to 24 March).

They want to meet and speak with local people who have an NEC or Young Scot card and who receive the concessionary ferry vouchers.

They are also keen to speak concessionary ferry voucher recipients who

  • don’t use computers or smartphones much or at all
  • can experience barriers relating to disability
  • are planning to use the ferry vouchers this June and would be interested in being part of a pilot to test new process using their NEC / Young Scot smartcard

If you can help, please contact Sally Shaw at Transport Scotland Email:  sally.shaw@transport.gov.scot Phone/text:  07391 101896. She will arrange a time and place to meet and speak with you so you can see what might happen and the options for how you would collect your digital vouchers.
