Orkney Islands Council is set to appoint a new Executive Director of Education, Leisure and Housing.
Earlier this year, current Executive Director Wilfred Weir announced his intention to retire in the Autumn, after five years in post.
After a rigorous recruitment process, the post has been offered to James Wylie, who at present is OIC’s Head of Education (Curriculum and Community Learning).
Council Convener, Councillor Harvey Johnston, said: “We interviewed a strong field of candidates and I would like to offer my congratulations to James, who has accepted this opportunity to take on a role of great importance to the Council and to the wider community we serve.”
Councillor Gwenda Shearer, Chair of the Education, Leisure and Housing Committee, said: “The post provides the chance to make a positive and lasting impact on the lives of children, young people and adult learners, on the tenants of the housing we provide, and on the many people who use our leisure facilities – from museums and libraries to swimming pools and healthy living centres.
“I would like to thank all the candidates we interviewed and wish James all the best in this rewarding and challenging new role.”
