Orkney Islands Council is carrying out important maintenance work on its electrical vehicle charging points recommended by engineers.
As a precaution, many of the Council’s EV points are out of operation until the work is complete.
Council-run charging points which are unaffected and still in operation are:
- At the western end of the Great Western Road carpark Kirkwall (ie directly opposite Tesco).
- St Rognvalds House, Kirkwall.
- Ferry Road West carpark, Stromness (one is still operational).
- Old Academy carpark, Stromness (two charging points are available here).
- Church Road, St Margarets Hope.
- Braeburn Court, St Margarets Hope.
- Houton Ferry Terminal.
There is also a privately-run charging point at Ticketyboo in Kirkwall.
Those areas where there are no charging points currently available are the East Kirk Car Park in Kirkwall, Dounby Primary School and the Pickaquoy Centre.
Darren Richardson, the Council’s Head of Infrastructure and Strategic Projects, said: “These are important upgrades which we’d hoped it would be possible to put in place immediately.
“We are working as quickly as we can. However, we estimate it could now be a few more days before we can complete this work.
“We apologise for any inconvenience this creates and remind drivers of EV vehicles to take into account the location of chargers still in use when planning their journeys during this period.”
