Ebb and Flow hit the road

Date: 13 March 2023

Orkney Islands Council’s Marine Services and Transportation team have added two compact electric vehicles to their roads fleet.

Ebb and Flow have been purchased at a cost of £8,000 each through the Environmental Levy fund, a charge which is paid by tankers using the Flow and then put towards low-carbon projects in Marine Services and Transportation.

Reaching a heady top speed of 28MPH, they’ll be used instead of conventional diesel or petrol vehicles for short runs in and around Kirkwall.

They’ve been given a new look with the distinctive Marine Services wave and logo added to the sides.

The names were suggested by staff – compact names for compact cars!

Laura Cromarty is the Council’s Transportation Service Manager. She said: “Folk will be starting to spot these two in and around town very soon.  Being based out at Scapa, but with a lot of work to carry out at other sites in and around Kirkwall they offer a perfect alternative to carbon heavy petrol or diesel cars for our teams.”
