Drop in to find out more about analogue switch off

Date: 27 January 2025

Time: 11:00

A roadshow offering support and information for people on the ‘switch-off' of analogue phone lines is coming to Orkney this week.

The BT Digital Voice roadshows are being run by AbilityNet, as a charity that predominantly supports older and disabled people to improve their digital skills – but the session is open to all.

In 2023, BT announced the switch to its new digital home phone service, Digital Voice.

By January 2027, most telephone providers will be moving their customers from older analogue landlines over to new upgraded landline services using digital technology - this is collectively known as 'the digital switchover' and Digital Voice is BT's initiative as part of the switchover.

The upgrade to Digital Voice means calls will be made over the broadband network rather than the 40-year-old analogue network.

The event will take place on Thursday 30th January from 10am-4pm at the Pickaquoy Centre, Kirkwall.

BT customers are encouraged to drop-in and have a 1-2-1 personal conversation about Digital Voice with a BT advisor, who can answer your questions or address concerns about making the switch when the time comes

You don't have to pre-book for any of the sessions, just turn up.

For most BT customers, the upgrade to Digital Voice is simply having a landline phone connected to a BT broadband router. More than 99% of phone handsets are compatible with BT’s Digital Home Phone service.
