Drivers advised of continued surface water
Date: 22 November 2017
Time: 11:43
Orkney Islands Council is advising there is surface water on roads in several locations across Orkney, following sustained rainfall in the county over the past two days.
With wet weather likely to continue over coming days, drivers are advised to be vigilant on the roads over this rainy period, keeping distance to vehicles in front, and to be aware of possibilities of oncoming vehicles trying to avoid larger areas of standing water.
Drivers are also reminded that surface water can build up quickly and can also be an issue for several hours after rainfall stops.
You can report flooding to the council on 01856 873535, (01856876338 out of hours) but please note that the Council may well be in attendance at several locations at any one time and doing so on a priority basis over the coming days. If the flooding is severe Police Scotland can be contacted via the national enquiry line on 101 - they will be liaising with the Council on the response needed.
