Doorstep trading reminder for consumers
Date: 13 March 2017
Time: 04:22
Following queries from the public the Council’s Trading Standards Service is reminding consumers of their rights when buying goods or services at their doorstep.
As any such contract is unsolicited and unplanned the customer generally has fourteen days in which to cancel the contract and have any money paid refunded or cheque cancelled. This entitlement should, by law, be supplied in writing by the business offering the goods or services.
Consumers should also ask to see the trader’s licence entitling them to go door to door and remember too that it might be difficult to contact the trader should there be any subsequent problem with the product or service.
For further information or advice, please contact Trading Standards at the Council Offices on 01856 873535 or by email to trading.standards@orkney.gov.uk, or contact Police Scotland.
