Disruption to waste and refuse collections - 6 April
Date: 6 April 2021
Time: 09:23
Orkney Islands Council is advising of disruptions and cancellations to waste and recycling collections in the county today (6 April) as a result of the current bad weather.
- Refuse collections in Flotta are cancelled today due to ferry disruptions. Householders are asked to re-present their refuse at their next collection in a week's time
- Refuse collections in Westray are cancelled today due to ferry disruptions. Householders are asked to re-present at their next scheduled refuse collection in a fortnight's time.
It's expected today's windy and wintry conditions will cause some delays and disruptions to all other collections.
Householders whose recycling/refuse bins aren't full and can wait until the next collection might consider not putting their bins out to save them being blown over in the strong winds.
Road conditions remain challenging especially on minor roads where icy conditions may prevent lorries from safely accessing some households. The Council apologises in advance for any inconvenience.
