Disruption to recycling and rubbish collections expected due to Storm Caroline

Date: 6 December 2017

Time: 01:47

Storm Caroline is likely to bring widespread disruption to Council recycling and refuse collections over coming days.

There is a high likelihood that recycling collections tomorrow, Thursday 7 December, (Area 4) will be disrupted. Some households may be bypassed due to high winds. (Current forecasts are for gusts of 70mph to 80mph, with up to 90mph in exposed areas).

Householders are advised that lighter items such as paper and plastics should not be put out for collection tomorrow, to reduce the risk of wind-blown litter. They should also keep a watch on the Council’s OIC Updates Facebook (https://www.facebook.com/OICUpdates/) page for any further advice from the Council with regards to their collection.

Although wind speeds are expected to drop slightly on Friday (8 December), forecasts are advising of the possibility of snow. Combined with the continued strong winds, refuse collections on Friday (Area 5) are likely to be impacted also.
