COVID-19 restrictions – sport and leisure update

As Orkney continues to be in Level Three COVID-19 restrictions until at least mid-February, we want to update our customers and staff on what impacts this will now have on Sport and Leisure activities and facilities up to the 28 February 2021.

After a careful review of Scottish Government, sportscotland and governing bodies of sport guidance, as well as current facility usage figures, the following facilities and activities will continue to be affected:

KGS Sport Centre:

  • Facility opening hours will continue to be 25 hours per week as per the new timetable published.
  • Indoor group exercise classes remain cancelled, however we are still offering our Online Exercise Programme by signing up online at www.orkney.gov.uk/slbookings
  • Group bookings for organised outdoor contact sport, competition, events and physical activity for adults (18+ years) will be cancelled until 28 February. Organisers will be contacted and advised.
  • Group bookings for organised indoor sport, competition, events and physical activity for adults (18 + years) will be cancelled until 28 February. Organisers will be contacted and advised.

Stromness Swimming Pool and Fitness Centre:

No change to current operation.

Stromness Community Centre and Town Hall:

Facilities to reopen on the 28 February 2021 subject to guidance.

Dounby Centre:

Facilities to remain open for gym use and junior group bookings on a reduced timetable until 28 February as per the new timetable published.

Healthy Living Centres:

No change to current operation.

Kirkwall Community Centre and Town Hall:

Facilities to reopen on the 28 February 2021 subject to guidance.

St Magnus Café:

No Change to current operation.

Although it is planned for some facilities not to re-open until 28 February, if restrictions ease prior to 28 February we will look to adapt the facility and activity arrangements shown. The Scottish Government’s Level 3 COVID-19 guidance does allow for a range of activities to take place, so if there is a demand from local groups and clubs please contact the Sport and Leisure service on leisure.culture@orkney.gov.uk We want to ensure that while following guidance we continue to try to accommodate our community users wherever possible.
