COVID-19 restrictions Sport and Leisure facilities update

With restrictions due to ease during May, Orkney’s Sport and Leisure Team have updated how this will impact on their activities and facilities in the county.
Orkney will continue to be in Level 3 COVID-19 restrictions until 16 May, and from the week commencing 17 May, will enter Level 2.
After a careful review of Scottish Government, sportscotland and Governing Bodies of Sport guidance, as well as current facility usage figures, the following facilities and activities will continue to be affected:
KGS Sport Centre:
- During the continuation of Level 3 until 16 May the facility will remain open for fitness suite use, single court activities and junior group bookings. Outdoor organised activity can also take place with the exception of adult contact sport.
- Indoor group exercise classes are to return week commencing 17 May when restrictions are eased to Level 2 and we will continue to offer our Online Exercise Programme. Please book classes online.
- From 17 May all organised indoor and outdoor activity can return with the exception of indoor adult contact sport.
Stromness Swimming Pool and Fitness Centre: No change to the current operation.
Stromness Community Centre and Town Hall: Facilities to reopen on the 17 May 2021 subject to guidance.
Dounby Centre:
- During the continuation of Level 3 until 16 May the facility will remain open for fitness suite use, single court activities and junior group bookings. Outdoor organised activity can also take place with the exception of adult contact sport.
- Indoor group exercise classes are to return week commencing 17 May when restrictions are eased to Level 2 and we will continue to offer our Online Exercise Programme. Please book classes online.
- From 17 May all organised indoor and outdoor activity can return with the exception of indoor adult contact sport.
Grass pitches: Grass pitches are rescheduled to open as per normal from 1 May to allow organised outdoor activity as per current guidance. Changing facilities are to remain closed.
Healthy Living Centres: No change to the current operation.
Kirkwall Community Centre and Town Hall: Facilities to reopen on the 17 May 2021 subject to guidance.
St Magnus Café: No change to the current operation.

Hostels & Campsites:
- Point of Ness Campsite & Birsay Campsites opened on 1 April for local residents only, however, following the latest government guidance both facilities will be open to visitors from outwith Orkney as of the 26 April 2021.
- Hoy Centre and Rackwick Hostel are open for bookings following current guidance.
- Birsay Centre will remain closed to public for the 2021/22 season.

Although it is planned for some facilities not to re-start until 17 May, the Scottish Government’s Level 3 COVID-19 guidance does allow for a range of activities to take place, so if there is a demand from local groups/ clubs please contact the Sport and Leisure Service on leisure.culture@orkney.gov.uk as we want to ensure that, while following guidance, we continue to try to accommodate our community users wherever possible.
