Countdown commences to launch of new employability tool for Orkney
Date: 20 August 2024

A new no-fuss guide for anyone seeking work in Orkney is due to launch later this month, on Thursday (29 August).
It’s the brainchild of Orkney’s Jedi Council - a group of local people with experiences of job seeking and local employability support services.
The ‘Employability Pathway’ aims to cut through jargon and help people quickly find support relevant to them.
Jedi councillor Nikki Flett said: “Our mission was to make it simple for everyone to see what help is available and how to get it.”
The Jedi Council meets regularly and works closely with the Local Employability Partnership - a collaboration of partners across Orkney working to deliver a more streamlined employability provision locally – on a range of projects.
(Previous projects led by the Jedi Council have included the Employability Hub in Kirkwall, a key base to support people on their employment journey launched last year.)
Kerry Spence is Chair of the Local Employability Partnership - a collaboration of partners working to deliver a more streamlined employability provision locally – and also leads on community development and learning at Orkney Islands Council.
“The aim was for the resource to highlight various support and pathways available locally to help people along on their learning and employment journey.
“The Jedi Council were especially keen that people could simply click on a challenge or ambition they’re experiencing, and be taken to a service who can help – in a single click.
“I think together we’ve achieved that and we can’t wait to launch it to the Orkney public later this month.”
The Employability Pathway will go live on 29 August - keep an eye on the Council’s facebook page for revelation of the link.
Funding for the development of the website has come from the Scottish Government’s ‘No One Left Behind’ stream.
