Council launches recycling survey

Date: 10 October 2018

Time: 02:19

Are you recycling as much household waste as you can and is there anything that would make it easier for you?

Those are some of the questions local people are being urged to answer as the Council launches a survey into the county’s recycling provision for householders.

The Household Waste and Recycling survey can be filled out online.

Additionally, staff from the Council’s waste team will be out and about at Household Waste and Recycling Centres (HWRCs) over coming weeks speaking to members of the public about opening hours, kerbside collections, and encouraging them to fill out a survey.

It’s hoped this work will help:

  • Outline how Orkney residents feel about current opening arrangements at HWRCs to feed into future proposals
  • Explore the level usage of the kerbside recycling collection service and whether it’s being used optimally to recycle as much household waste as possible
  • Gauge the level of support and interest for a community-led reuse and swap shop facility at Hatston

Jayne Venables is the Council’s Project Coordination Manager in waste services: “With reducing public spend across the UK and in common with all other Councils our waste services are under pressure. We do need to ensure that the services we are running are being delivered in ways people need, to help them recycle as much as possible.”

The survey takes around five minutes to complete.

Everyone who completes the survey can enter a draw for a chance to win a £20 voucher.

Paper copies of the survey are available from the Council’s Customer Services receptions in School Place, Kirkwall and Warehouse Buildings, Stromness.

The survey closes on 31 October.
