Rockin’ Around the Orkney waters just became that bit safer for Kirkwall RNLI crew and seafarers thanks to the generosity of Council staff who raised around £800 through a festive raffle and Christmas jumper day.
A donation was made to the crew today, Wednesday, on behalf of the Council by the Democratic Services team, who organised this year’s festive fundraiser.
Maureen Spence, the Council’s Service Manager for Democratic Services and Communication said: “For the first time since 2019, we were finally able to get together with colleagues for a Christmas lunch or evening meal. In addition, part of our festivities has also been about giving something back to the community and this year’s chosen charity was the Kirkwall RNLI – a very worthy local cause.
“I would like to thank my team for going above and beyond to make sure all has been a great success and all those who donated goods to the raffle and bought tickets.”
Graham Campbell from the Kirkwall RNLI said: “We are overwhelmed by this very kind Christmas donation from all OIC staff, the generosity of all the Orkney public in supporting the RNLI never ceases to amaze us and we couldn't do what we do in keeping Orkney waters safe and protected without all your support.
“We will be on call 24hrs a day every day over the festive period ready to respond to any incident should it arise, we would like to wish everyone a very Happy and Safe Christmas and New Year.”
