Council Coronation page of community events
Date: 4 May 2023
Communities throughout Orkney have shared their plans for a royal get together in celebration of the Coronation of King Charles III at Westminster Abbey on Saturday 6 May.
We have set up a special page on the Council website - www.orkney.gov.uk/Coronation - if you want to see what’s on or add in an event.
This is the UK’s first Coronation in more than 70 years when the King will be crowned alongside Camilla, the Queen Consort.
Many in the county have chosen to mark the occasion with a host of events planned throughout the parishes and isles. There’s tea parties, family fun days, picnics and crafts, Big Lunch volunteering events, Coronation balls and buffets, even a scarecrow competition and dressage league!
Council Convener Councillor Graham Bevan said: “Orkney has enjoyed a close relationship with the Royal Family over a significant number of years and for many households in the county this marks a very special occasion.
“The number of planned events is testament to Orkney’s community spirit despite these ongoing times of challenge.”
The Council will be flying the Union Flag during the weekend.
