Could you help maintain our toilet facilities?

Could you help ensure a very important service continues in Orkney – maintaining our public toilet facilities for all to use?

The Council is seeking to recruit additional mobile toilet attendants to assist with the ongoing cleaning programme at the public toilet facilities across the county.

There’s a shortage of attendants at the moment which is impacting on the enhanced cleaning package which has been in place as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic.

Just to reassure folk that staff are working hard to ensure all toilets can remain open – however the shortage of attendants may mean that some of the more remote facilities won’t have the same frequency of enhanced cleaning in place.

The Council’s Head of IT and Facilities, Hayley Green, said: “Since the toilet facilities reopened following the initial lockdown, we introduced an enhanced cleaning regime, and this will not change – it is the frequency at some of our less used facilities that has been looked at. This means we hope to be able to keep all facilities open – just that some of the more remote ones may be cleaned once a day rather than twice, for example.

“We continue to provide liquid soap for you to use to wash your hands, as well as a supply of cleaning products as required. We would ask everyone to please leave the soap and the cleaning products in the toilets for the next person to use - please do not take them away with you.”

An interactive map showing public toilets that are currently open – and the facilities they offer – is available on the Orkney.com website.

If you are interested in coming to work for the Council, further information and job application forms are available on the MyJobScotland website.

Any issues within our toilet facilities should be reported via the Council’s online platform MyOrkney 24/7 or through Customer Services 01856 873535 during office hours 9am-1pm and 2pm-5pm.
