Continuation of COVID-19 restrictions Sport and Leisure facilities update 9 March 2021

As Orkney continues to be in Level Three COVID-19 restrictions until week commencing 26 April, we want to update our customers and staff on what impacts this will now have on Sport and Leisure activities and facilities up to the 30 April 2021.
After a careful review of Scottish Government, sportscotland and Governing Bodies of Sport guidance, as well as current facility usage figures the following facilities and activities will continue to be affected:
KGS Sport Centre:
- Facility to remain open for fitness suite use, single court activities and junior group bookings now for 30hrs per week until 30 April as per the new timetable published.
- From 15 March additional fitness suite sessions will be available from 20:30 - 21:30 Monday – Friday evenings.
- Indoor group exercise classes remain cancelled however we are still offering our Online Exercise Programme. Please sign up online at www.orkney.gov.uk/slbookings.
- Group bookings for organised outdoor contact sport, competition, events and physical activity for adults (18+ years) will be contacted and cancelled until 30 April.
- Group bookings for organised indoor sport, competition, events and physical activity for adults (18 + years) will be contacted and cancelled until30 April.
Stromness Swimming Pool and Fitness Centre:
- No change to current operation.
Stromness Community Centre and Town Hall:
- Facilities to reopen on the 1 May 2021 subject to guidance.
Dounby Centre:
- Facilities to remain open for fitness suite use and junior group bookings on a reduced timetable until 30 April as per the new timetable published.
Healthy Living Centres:
- No change to current operation.
Kirkwall Community Centre and Town Hall:
- Facilities to reopen on the 1 May 2021 subject to guidance.
St Magnus Café:
- No Change to current operation.
Hostels and Campsites:
- Point of Ness Campsite & Birsay Campsite is preparing to open from 1 April following current restrictions.
- Hoy Centre and Rackwick Hostel are open for bookings following current restrictions guidance.
- Birsay Hostel will remain closed to public for the 2021/22 season.
We have an authorisation process in place to ensure we are following the current guidance. Bookings for March and April can only be made by contacting Stromness Customer Services by telephone on 01856 873535 ext 2901 or emailing stromnesscs@orkney.gov.uk.

Promotions
- Kids Go Free - In March and April to encourage recreational physical family activities we are offering U18’s (non members) to go free to any of our single court activities. This is subject to availability and available at Dounby Centre and KGS Sports Centre only.
- Easter Staycation Our campsites and hostels offer an excellent way to enjoy a break without leaving Orkney. As Orkney will continue to be in Level 3 during April we want to encourage locals to stay at our sites and enjoy what our islands have to offer. Our ActiveLife or ActiveIslands members will also be able to take advantage of our exclusive 25% discount on all campsite and hostel bookings for April 2021.
Although it is planned for some facilities not to re-open until 30 April, if restrictions ease prior to 30 April we will look to adapt the facility/ activity arrangements shown. The Scottish Governments Level 3 COVID-19 guidance does allow for a range of activities to take place, so if there is a demand from local groups/ clubs please contact email the Sport and Leisure service as we want to ensure that - while following guidance - we continue to try to accommodate our community users wherever possible.
