An exciting new development to extend and alter Glaitness Primary School and Nursery is due to get underway soon.
The contract, worth just under £1,584,000, has been awarded to Orkney Builders (Contractors) Ltd with the preparatory works due to start on 28 June.
The school will see an extension to the front to provide additional nursery accommodation, with the existing nursery being renovated and utilised by the school for the early primary stages.
There will be some necessary changes to the school car parking arrangements due to the works on site. From 28 June the contractor will begin fencing off the area to ensure construction works can begin on 5 July. Part of the car park adjacent to the school will be closed off to provide a compound area for site offices and storage of limited plant and equipment. Contractor vehicles will not use this area, parking elsewhere, apart from during school holiday periods.
The remaining parking spaces will be available for the public and school staff and access and egress will remain as it is at present.
The works are anticipated to be completed at the end of 2022.
