Change to Kirkwall Travel Centre festive opening hours

Date: 18 December 2020

Time: 10:17

Orkney Islands Council is advising the Travel Centre in Kirkwall will close at 5.30pm on 23 December 2020 and re-open at 9am on 5 January 2021.

Regular users are asked to note this is different to recently advertised and is a result of antisocial behaviour at the facility in recent days including swearing and people not wearing face masks.

The Council’s Transport Manager Laura Cromarty: “We do not have the staff available between 24 December and 5 January to manage the antisocial behaviour we’ve been seeing again in recent days and we’ve therefore taken the difficult decision, for everyone’s safety and to protect the facility, to close a day earlier and reopen a day later than previously advertised over the festive period.”

To find out about alternative public conveniences over the festive period, visit the Festive Arrangements page.

Other public toilets operated by the Council will close on Christmas Eve and re-open on 27 December, and close again on 31 December re-opening on 3 January 2021. Note they may close earlier (on 24 and 31 December 2020) and reopen later (on 31 December 2020 and 3 January 2021) than usual opening times. Ferry waiting rooms are only open on days there are ferry sailings.
