Orkney Islands Council is advising St Magnus Cathedral in Kirkwall will be closed to the public from 7 – 10 June (inclusive) to allow filming and recording for this year’s St Magnus International Festival.

Additionally, visitors are reminded the Cathedral will be closed on Friday 11 June and Saturday 12 June also, in line with the Cathedral’s normal opening hours.

Charlotte Rendall, manager of St Magnus International Festival, said:

“We’re very grateful for the opportunity to carry out recordings for this year’s St Magnus International Festival in this most marvellous and much-loved building, which of course in normal times is the heart of festivities. We’re pulling out all the stops to capture the unique ambience and acoustics of this majestic venue over the second week of June, to provide a truly magical, high quality online listening and viewing experience for our audiences both near and far during this year’s programme.”

St Magnus Cathedral, started in 1137, is of international significance and is the most complete medieval cathedral in Scotland. It is unique in being owned by Orkney Islands Council on behalf of the county’s residents.
