Ballot papers due for South Ronaldsay and Burray Election
Date: 23 August 2023
A recent rallying call to action by the Council for local folk to step up to form a Community Council in South Ronaldsay and Burray has seen ten willing candidates put their name forward.
With eight places on the Community Council, ballot papers will now be issued and an election will be held.
Everyone over 16 registered to vote in the area will receive a ballot paper towards the end of this week.
All voting is done by post and is free – simply use the reply paid envelope which comes with each ballot paper.
To vote, simply place a cross in the boxes beside your preferred candidates. You can vote for as many or as few candidates as you wish up to eight (the number of seats available).
Ballot papers must be returned by 5 pm on Wednesday 6 September either by post or to the Council Offices in Kirkwall.
Karen Greaves is the Council’s Corporate Director of Strategy, Performance and Business Solutions, the service area with responsibilities for community councils and elections. She said: “We had a fantastic response from the community in South Ronaldsay and Burray and we're delighted to be in the position of now running an election.
“Community Councils are one of the most important sounding boards for the Council on a range of grass roots issues - and those who will end up forming the community council will provide that vital voice for your area. On that basis I’d encourage everyone to look out for their ballot papers and support these people by returning their vote.”
The results will be published on the Council website once all votes have been counted.
