People in Orkney can now apply for Social Security Scotland’s new benefit, Adult Disability Payment.

It’s money to help disabled people or people who have a long-term health condition with the extra costs they have in everyday life.

Adult Disability Payment is open for new applications only. People who already get Personal Independence Payment or Disability Living Allowance don’t need to apply as their benefits will have started to be transferred to Social Security Scotland from 29 August 2022. Social Security Scotland will be in touch directly.

The national rollout follows a successful pilot in 13 local authority areas.

You can apply for Adult Disability Payment if you are aged between 16 and State Pension age and have either a:

  • disability or long-term physical or mental health condition;
  • terminal illness.

You can still apply if you're waiting for a diagnosis and it doesn’t matter if you are working or not working, your income and any savings are not considered.

People can find out more information and apply at www.mygov.scot/adult-disability-payment or call Social Security Scotland on 0800 182 2222.
