Accommodation appeal
Date: 18 April 2024
Thanks to your help in recent times, we have been able to find private rented homes for a number of key worker posts both for here at the Council and for our colleagues at NHS Orkney.
We would hate to lose staff at either organisation because they can’t find a home, so we are appealing once again for your help. On this occasion, we are looking for a property for an employee joining our Social Work team – a permanent member of staff who is due to start soon. Any one-bedroom self-contained units in or around Kirkwall would be really helpful. We are also in need of family-sized accommodation, so at least two bedrooms, on Mainland Orkney for two members of NHS Orkney staff.
In addition, we are always on the lookout for further rental properties to have on our register. Are you a private sector landlord with a rental property, or do you know of a friend or relative with a property for rent who may be able to help by renting to a staff member?
You just need to be registered and meet the general requirements for registration as a private landlord.
Would you consider registering a property? There’s information for private landlords on our website at https://www.orkney.gov.uk/Service-Directory/H/becoming-a-landlord.htm
The let would be directly to the staff member, not to the Council or NHS Orkney, and suitable matches would be made depending on circumstances i.e. if someone had pets or was looking for a particular size of property.
Please get in touch with housing@orkney.gov.uk if you are already registered and have an available property for rent now – or if you are interested in registering as a private sector landlord.
This is not about social housing – such as Council housing or through Orkney Housing Association Ltd – this is about trying to source through private channels.
