Abandoned trailers a drag on car park spaces
Date: 22 June 2022
Trailer owners are being urged not to use public car parks to store their trailers following complaints to the Council from members of the public.
Trailers and other oversized vehicles left in car park bays intended for cars can cause issues - from to creating a visibility hazard, to taking up spaces relied upon by local businesses and residents – particularly in car parks near housing schemes where residents may not have their own off-street parking and may have groceries and young children to contend with, or mobility issues themselves.
The Council’s Roads Services team has received a number of complaints recently, particularly in relation to Finstown car park (near the pier). In response the Council has placed notices on abandoned trailers asking owners to move them on, and Chair of Development and Infrastructure, Councillor David Dawson, is issuing this public plea:
“Please remember the spaces in our public car parks are there to support businesses, residents and users of facilities nearby.
“People should not be leaving trailers or other oversized vehicles such as caravans in public car parks, unless it is in a bay designated for that purpose – it makes things difficult for other people, especially as we enter the busy summer period where spaces are already in demand.
“Trailers and the like should be stored on your own private property, or on private property elsewhere.”
