A peedie look back at peedie folks' tractor runs for care home residents

While the rest of Orkney were enjoying the Tractor run this last festive season, three of Orkney's care homes also got in on the act.

Hamanavoe House, Smiddybrae House and St Rognvald's House all held Bairns Tractor Runs in December, where the pedal tractors, trucks and even a fire engine were grandly decorated with lights and the bairns took a "drive" around the buildings much to entertainment of both the bairns and the residents.

This fabulous idea came from Alison Ritch who's mother lives in Smiddybrae, where the first run was held in December 2022. It was such a success that Hamnavoe House and St Rognvald's House picked up the idea and also held runs in 2023.

Events and activities like these are incredibly important to our residents as they build meaningful engagement through socialisation, movement and community connections. All our Care Homes in Orkney are delighted to have suggestions and ideas put to them for activities that can enrich the residents' lives.

Huge thanks goes to everyone who helped make these tractor runs such a festive occasion for residents and their families and friends.
