Organisations preventing and reducing alcohol and drug related harm in Orkney are invited to apply for Orkney Alcohol and Drugs Partnership (OADP) grants of up to £5,000 towards trying new approaches, improving ways of working and supporting recovery. 

Originally founded by forward-thinking women to provide opportunities for learning, finding friends and sharing skills, the Scottish Women’s Institute in Orkney is celebrating its centenary year. 

Orkney Islands Council is calling for nominations from the community for its employee award scheme – the VIP Awards.

It’s the second year of the awards, which are aimed at recognising service which reflects OIC’s values - People, Unity, Trust, Ownership and Creativity – with VIP standing for ‘Values In Practice’.

The distinct heritage of Orkney’s many communities is set to benefit from the expertise of the Council’s Museums team, thanks to almost £100,000 of support from the Esmée Fairbairn Foundation. 

Following a successful 12-week consultation on the draft Orkney Islands Regional Marine Plan, the Council’s Marine Planning Team will now be carefully considering the raft of comments received and updating the draft plan. 

Older folk in Orkney are being encouraged to have a health check on their finances by Age Scotland Orkney and Citizens Advice Bureau. 

Dates for online Orkney Matters 2 events have been announced.  

The recent recall around FGS Ingredients Ltd has been extended to include more products potentially containing undeclared peanut powder in mustard products.  

The Council is reminding the community that public toilets will close for Halloween, to prevent devilish damage and vandalism on the night - reopening throughout the following day.
