Have you updated signage to the Stay Well scheme
Are you having a spring clean of your business or community premises? You may have COVID posters left over from earlier stages of the pandemic, when less was known about the virus and how it spread. Freshen up this spring by taking down out-of-date posters, and updating to the Scottish Government ‘Stay Well Signage’ scheme.

Orkney and Shetland studies win Net Zero Living funding
Orkney and Shetland have been chosen as two of 31 innovation locations in the UK, to conduct three-month feasibility studies examining how to overcome some of the key non-technical barriers that are holding back efforts to reach net zero targets in their area.

First batch of £200 cost of living payments to be made this week (9 Feb)
The Council’s cost of living £200 payments will be received by 600 households in Orkney by the end of this week.
The first tranche of payments are to those who are automatically entitled and for whom the Council holds bank account details.

Health and wellbeing survey hopes to identify the needs of Orkney’s children and young people
Councillors have recommended setting up a short-life working group to consider a voluntary health and wellbeing survey for Orkney’s children and young people.
During the academic year 2021/22, all local authorities in Scotland were asked by the Scottish Government to make a health and wellbeing census available to P5-S6 pupils.

Orkney Library funding award to boost digital offering
Walk on water, kick a virtual football, test your grey matter with a range of interactive quizzes and stimulate your memory – just a snapshot of the new digital experience that will be on offer at the Orkney Library and Archive soon.
Thanks to funding of £8,500 from the Scottish Government’s Public Library Improvement Fund, the Kirkwall facility will be purchasing a mobile digital interactive floor projector – initially for use in the library – however, it could also be used in care facilities or schools in future.

Iconic naval gun from SMS Bremse returns renewed to Scapa Flow Museum
A rare naval gun from German High Seas Fleet Ship SMS Bremse - one of only five First World War German naval guns surviving in the UK - has returned to the Scapa Flow Museum after heading south for conservation late last year.
