Reminder to householders of festive recycling changes

The Orkney Islands Council (Christmas Tree Lighting Events) (Temporary Closure) Order 2024
Orkney Islands Council has made the above-named Order under Section 62 of the Roads (Scotland) Act 1984 to ensure the safety of the public and road users in respect of Christmas tree lighting events in Kirkwall, Stromness, Dounby and St Margaret’s Hope.

Our Trading Standards team is aware of multiple instances of local residents receiving text messages claiming to be from the Home Office or the UK Government advising that with the reduction of the winter heating subsidy the householder can instead claim a "living allowance" which may be payable in instalments.
