    Local people are being reminded to take a closer look at proposals for the future management of the world-renowned Heart of Neolithic Orkney World Heritage Site (WHS)  - and give their feedback via an online survey option newly added to the consultation website.

  • Tackling Flooding Together – event planned to raise “self-help” awareness

    Orkney Islands Council is hosting a flood resilience community engagement event this month (September) with a visit from the Scottish Flood Forum (SFF).

    There are 680 residential and 460 non-residential properties deemed to be at risk of flooding in Orkney according to the 2015 Flood Risk Strategy for the islands. Over 90% of identified risk is from the sea with the remainder from surface water and overtopping watercourses.

  • Valuable local input sought to help shape Orkney’s marine plan

    People in Orkney are being invited to “come on board” to help shape the Orkney Islands Regional Marine Plan.

    Orkney Marine Planning Partnership has published a guidance document, a Statement of Public Participation, showing how the public can get involved in moulding Orkney’s marine economy and environment. It outlines the indicative timescale and how people can input to the development of the Marine Plan.

  • Flood risk areas – share your views

    The Scottish Environment Protection Agency (SEPA) is asking the public and businesses to share their views on shaping flood risk actions and objectives for Orkney and other high-risk areas of Scotland.

    SEPA has launched a joint consultation with Orkney Islands Council and other local authorities, to help shape the direction and delivery of flood risk management across the country.
