Dementia Awareness Week invitation

Dementia Awareness Week starts on Monday 27 May, and there is a fantastic array of events on offer - from special cinema screenings and singalongs to a bingo bonanza, there's something for everyone!

This year the theme is 'your voice, your choice, your future'.

Events have been planned throughout the week to raise awareness and showcase some of the supports and activities available.

Monday 27 May

• Launch of the Living Well with Dementia App for Orkney
• Men’s Hub at Age Scotland Orkney - 1pm
• Dementia Friendly Orkney Singing at The Life Centre - 2pm

Tuesday 28 May

• Friendly Hub at Age Scotland Orkney - 10:30am
• Dementia Friendly Orkney – Craft Group at the Life Centre - 10:30am

Wednesday 29 May

• Ladies’ Hub at Age Scotland Orkney – 1pm meet then on to the cinema
• Dementia Friendly Cinema screening at The Pickaquoy Centre: Calamity Jane (sing-along) 1:30pm and again at 7.30pm. Open to everyone, please come along!

Thursday 30 May and Thursday 6 June

• Tea with a Pony – Organised by Age Scotland Orkney in partnership with Riding for the Disabled Association (RDA)

Friday 31 May

• Dementia Awareness Training is available using Virtual Reality Headsets – phone Age Scotland Orkney on 872438 to book a session.

Saturday 1 June

• Tea Party in the Garden at Age Scotland Orkney 11am – 1pm
• St Magnus Cathedral to be lit up in purple (sunset onwards) Monday – Saturday (27th May – 2nd June)
• Information and advice at Age Scotland Orkney, Monday – Friday, 9am-5pm.
• Shops in Kirkwall showing support for dementia by turning a window display purple.

Friday 7 June

Dementia Friendly Orkney are hosting Prize Bingo in the Kirkwall Legion. Eyes down at 7:30pm
