Barbara Jolly

It’s with great sadness that we mark the passing of one of our oldest care home residents on Saturday 17 February – Barbara Jolly who was 102.

Barbara had been cared for by the staff at St Rognvald House for around nine years and will hold a special place in the hearts of many who came to know her.

Inga Wilson, Manager of St Rognvald House, said: “Barbara was a very special lady and her passing will undoubtedly leave a void in the lives of so many who loved her. She was an inspiration to us all with her zest for life and acceptance of challenge and change, particularly during the Covid years.

“From all the staff here, we offer our sincere condolences on Barbara’s passing. She will be sorely missed by us all.”

Council Convener, Graham Bevan, added: “Barbara’s life spanned over a century which saw incredible change. She had a life to be celebrated and remembered and the thoughts of the Orkney community are with Barbara’s family and friends at this sad time.

The family have given their blessing to our re-sharing of an article celebrating Barbara’s 100th birthday on 9 June 2021 https://www.orkney.gov.uk/News?postid=4268
