Weather disruptions - Wednesday 7 February 2024

A rolling update on disruptions to Council services due to today's snowy conditions (Wednesday 7 February 2024):

• All schools in Orkney - including Orkney College and nurseries - are closed today.
• All Stagecoach are cancelled for the day, with tomorrow's (Thursday 8 February) services under review with a decision to be made at 5am - check their Twitter feed for updates
• Our Day Care centres are also closed today
• The Council Offices in Kirkwall and Stromness are open
• All waste and recycling collections are cancelled today
• Our roads crews have been hard at work since 6am clearing Priority 1 roads. If you can delay your journey, please do so, in order to give our teams space to work.
• Our Wellness Wednesday sessions at The Pickaquoy Centre are cancelled tonight
• One key thing to note is that temperatures are expected to be below freezing tonight and so road conditions could become very difficult as this snow thaws.
• All bin collections are cancelled today - other than in Shapinsay where the collections will go ahead.
• The roads are passable with care, but please do drive to the conditions and if you don't need to travel please stay off the roads to give our team space to work.
• Cursiter Household Waste and Recycling Centre is closed today
