Gritter breakdown updates for Rousay and Sanday

Date: 06 February 2024

Time: 12:00

The Council has been working hard to restore gritting operations in Sanday and Rousay following breakdowns of the two vehicles in the islands yesterday (Monday 5 Feb 2024).

As at 12 midday am on Tuesday 6 February, roads in both islands remain untreated.

However a spare gritter is booked onto the Sanday ferry and will resume treatment tonight, Tuesday 6 February.

The Rousay gritter is also now repaired and on first standby for next available sailing today.

The Council reminds drivers in the Rousay and Sanday communities to continue to be vigilant and drive with care meantime, allowing plenty of extra time for journeys.

All drivers in Orkney are reminded a yellow warning for snow and ice is in place for the county between 3pm today (Tuesday 6 February) and midday Wednesday (7 February), and a warning across the country for the remainder of this week. Folk are advised to keep an eye on further updates from the MET Office and ensure they and their vehicles are well prepared for winter travel. Visit www.orkney.gov.uk/winter for tips and advice.
