High winds may hamper waste and recycling services

Date: 19 December 2023

With high winds forecast over the next few days, Orkney Islands Council is advising there is a possibility of disruption to its waste and recycling services.

Waste and Recycling centres may have to close, particularly on/during Thursday, if it is too windy to operate safely. This decision may have to be made at short notice – customers are advised to postpone trips to waste and recycling centres for when the winds are kinder.

Householders are reminded to use their judgement on whether or not to put out bins during severe weather. Further advice is available at www.orkney.gov.uk/binclips

You can check waste and recycling site opening hours over the festive period, and check for any changes to your usual bin collection days, at www.orkney.gov.uk/xmas23

Stay tuned to the Council’s facebook page for any further updates.
