The spotlight is on some of the outstanding work carried out by the Council for the local community, as the first finalists for the Council’s VIP Awards are announced.

Following the launch of the VIP Awards in September a panel of staff members from across our services and at all different levels have met and selected two finalists in each category.  The finalists will go on to take part in the annual award celebration with the chance to receive vouchers and a certificate.

The awards highlight the great work across Orkney Islands Council and are aimed at recognising work which reflects our values - People, Unity, Trust, Ownership and Creativity.

Karen Greaves is the Council’s Corporate Director of Strategy, Performance and Business Solutions, the service area with responsibility for organisational development. She said: “We are delighted to have received so many nominations for our new award scheme  and it’s a great pleasure for us to announce our first group of finalists.

VIP stands for ‘Values in Practice’ and these finalists certainly encapsulate that.  Congratulations to the finalists and well done to everyone that was nominated.”

Our finalists are (by category):

  • Customer Focus
    • Caretaking Team at School Place - SPBS
    • Care at Home Assistant - OHAC
  • Working Together
    • Rona Humphries, Teacher - ELH
    • Daniel Morris, Graduate Marine Planner - NSI
  • Creativity
    • Library and Archives Team at Orkney Library - ELH
    • Alison Stewart, Senior Administrative Officer - OHAC

We recognise that we all have different preferences when it comes to celebrating our success and so finalists can opt out of having their name included in the communications, but are still included in the selection process and are invited to the annual awards event.

The next round is open for nominations to identify more finalists so if you know an OIC employee or team that you think deserves some recognition you can nominate them now at www.orkney.go.uk/VIPAwards.
