Date: 24 November 2023

Residents and staff enjoying a workshop with singDance specialists

Music and movement have been taking centre stage at Smiddybrae House!

Dance and singing specialists visited recently as part of the Scotland wide initiative danceSing, funded by the Scottish Government.

Staff at the care home underwent training with the help of some of the residents on how to make the most out of sing and dance activities, to further enhance the emotional and physical wellbeing of residents.

Senior social care worker at Smiddybrae, Kirstie Moar, said: “We are very excited to be a part of this project funded by Scottish Government. The resources are great and are sure to help staff keep our regular singing and physical activity sessions fresh and engaging, but also to bring music and movement and a sense of fun into everyday activities and routines, as well as bringing them together to enjoy extra social contact.”

danceSing is an evidence based approach to transforming mental and physical wellbeing – with benefits ranging from reducing stress, anxiety, loneliness, obesity, and falls – and improving balance, muscle strength, memory, cardiovascular health, flexibility, lung capacity, and carer connection.
