Get a ticket for 'first hour free' parking

Date: 02 October 2023

Orkney Islands Council is reminding the public they still need to obtain a ticket for the ‘first hour free’ parking scheme in Council car parks from 1 October.

To avoid being issued with a fine, drivers should still obtain a parking ticket from the machines and display this clearly in their windscreen.

To get a ticket for one hour’s free parking, simply press the green button.

If you need more than an hour’s parking, insert the required value in coins, or follow prompts on the machines to pay by card or contactless payment.

For more information about the location and charges for Council car parks, visit our Parking and Car Parkspage.

A reminder the Gunns Close car park ticket machine is experiencing issues with its card reader at the moment – so pay by coins (or use an alternative car park) meantime.
